The process goes something like this, we wash the car thoroughly to make sure we have a good starting point for the clay. After the vehicle is washed, we dry the car completely. That part is important because water and clay do not go well together, so we make sure it’s all gone. After that, we take the clay bar and separate it into several pieces and then flatten them. Those pieces go onto the detailer’s fingers. Before taking the clay across the paint, the small area being clayed has to get sprayed with a lubricating chemical to ensure that the clay does not stick to the car. After spraying the lubrication on, the clay is taken across the surface of the car lightly until the whole work area has been clayed. These are generally small areas being worked on individually, like half of the front bumper small. This process is repeated over and over again until the entire vehicle has been clayed in that same meticulous fashion. After the first round of claying is over, the detailer will double check their work by feeling around the paint to make sure there are no rough spots left.
